Bulldogs Win Triple Overtime Thriller Over Athenians

On Saturday night the Bulldog varsity team beat the Crawfordsville Athenians in triple overtime 62-59.

The Bulldogs came out strong behind the shooting of Mycah Whetstone who poured in 17 points in the first half on 6-7 shooting, knocking down five three pointers.  A Darayl Jordan alley-oop from Chase Dutra helped continue the momentum into the break.

In the second half the Dogs attacked the Crawfordsville's 2-3 zone as Jaraan Lands flashed in the middle knocking down jump shots and dishing to cutting teammates.  Chase Dutra drove to the basket and made plays forcing the Athenians to switch up their D.

At the end of regulation with the scored tied 40-40 the Dogs fought and got the needed defensive stop to send the game into overtime.

Brownsburg scored first in overtime but Crawfordsville came back to tie it again.  The Bulldogs battled and got another defensive stop at the end of the overtime to force a second overtime.

The Bulldogs made big plays again as Jordan took a charge,  Lands connected with Evan Finley on a bucket, and Whetstone nabbed a steal to give the ball back to the Dogs for the last shot.

The Dogs had two shots at the end to win but were unable to connect sending the game into triple overtime.

Although the Athenians took a quick three point lead, the Bulldogs gutted it out.  Lands cleaned up the offensive boards scoring a put back and getting to the foul line.  Finley's presence in the paint prevented drives by Crawfordsville.

Most importantly it was the foul shooting that sealed the deal for the Dogs as they shot 16-18 in overtime, including 9-10 in the third overtime.

Lands went 11-14 from the stripe combining for 19 points, eight rebounds and four assists.  Whetstone added 17, five boards, and two assists.  Dutra scored eleven points, went 5-6 from the stripe, and dished out six assists. Jordan Reagan added six points and five boards. Finley added five points and three boards.  Jordan scored four points and grabbed seven rebounds.

The Dogs face Harrison this Thursday in conference action back in the fieldhouse.
