Bulldogs Defeat Braves

In all-around team fashion, the Bulldogs brought home a tough 4-3 victory last night over a very tough, non-conference opponent in the Brebeuf Braves.  After a scoreless first by both teams, the Braves jumped out to an 3-0 lead over the Bulldogs after an unlucky throw ricocheted off a base runner leading to couple early runs.  The Dogs quickly answered in the bottom of the 3rd with senior 2B Brad Guilinger and senior OF Anthony Travelsted scoring on hits supplied by seniors Andrew Dishinger and Caleb SampenTravis Mears continued to pitch a gem of a game, keeping the Braves scoreless in the 3rd, 4th and 5th when the Dogs were finally able to take the lead.  Guilinger again led off the inning with a single and was able to score from 1st on a double to left by senior OF Michael Klayer.  He added the go-ahead run after being moved to 3rd by a Dishinger ground ball to the right side and a Sampen sacrifice fly to right field.  Mears closed the door on the Braves with a 3-up-3-down 6th and a scoreless 7th.  Mears threw a complete game, striking out 3 and only allowed 1 earned run on 5 hits in his first 2in of the season.  Offensive leaders for the night: Caleb Sampen (1/2, 2 RBIs), Michael Klayer (1/1, 1 RBI), Brad Guilinger (1/2, 2 Runs) and Anthony Travelsted (1/2, 1 Run, 1 SB)
