Track & Field Opens Indoor Season

The girls' track and field team is off to a great start as they opened up their season at Purdue University on Saturday. Brooke Dixon started the meet off strong by winning the mile in a field of 60 participants with a new personal best time of 5:15.37. Also placing in the mile was Gabby Bische in 5th and Abbie Aldridge, both with personal best times. Lizzie Daniels made the finals in the 55 meter dash placing 8th. Lizzie also had a personal best time in the 400 scoring in 6th place followed by a strong run from Michaela Barrett in 10th place. Freshman Logan Lewis had a strong showing in the 200 meters for her first ever track race, finishing with a time of 28.84. Faye Jessup and Irene Amalaraj both set personal best times in the 3200. In the field events, Roni Roberts and Kaylee Price both made finals in the shot put. Both girls set new personal bests and finished in 4th and 9th place overall. In the pole vault, Ali Ray placed 6th and Gabby Bische finished in 7th. The girls will travel to Indiana University on Wednesday to compete in the Bloomington North Invitational. Go Bulldogs!   

 

Our boys team competed for the first time this season at the West Lafayette individuals meet at Purdue. The big news of the day on the boys side was three indoor school records fell. The first record fell when Junior Shai Sumpter-Bey placed fourth in the 55 meter dash running a time of 6.78. Shai would later break the 200 meter dash indoor record placing third in the event running 23.65. In the final event of the day, Junior Trey Fisher placed 5th in the 400 meter dash running a new indoor school record 53.97. In the 55 hurdles, Leigh Nutall took 5th with a time of 8.21 and Tyrone Griffin finished 7th with a time of 8.35. The Bulldogs had three individuals place in the field events. Senior Leigh Nutall took 4th in the long jump with a final jump of 19'11". Both Kyle Flandermeyer and DJ Terrell cleared 10'6" in the Pole Vault which was good for a tie at 6th place. Other noteworthy performances came from Alex Freeman and Zach Travelsted. Alex, running his first two mile ever, was one spot short of placing in the event running 10:19. Zach improved by over 5 feet in the shot put from his previous lifetime best. He broke 40 feet for the first time ever at Purdue yesterday. The Bulldog Track team will compete this upcoming week at IU on Wednesday and at Wabash on Saturday.
