IHSAA Semi-State awaits No.3 @BHSDogsWrestlin

Thirteen Brownsburg varsity wrestlers will travel to Evansville, Indiana for the IHSAA Wrestling Evansville Reitz Semi-State hosted by the Ford Center this Saturday. Action is set to get underway at 9 a.m. CST.

     Last Time Out

Brownsburg wrestled at the IHSAA Wrestling Regional at Mooresville High School last weekend and came away with its fifth consecutive IHSAA Regional team championship. 106-pound Logan Miller, 138-pound Drake Campbell, 160-pound Peyton Asbury and 285-pound Dorian Keys each won an individual title at the Regional.

113-pound Braden Haines, 126-pound Kysen Montgomery, 182-pound Greg Glover, 195-pound Isaiah Street and 220-pound Leighton Jones were each runner-up at the Regional.

Brownsburg finished ahead of second-place Avon by 99 points at the Regional. All thirteen Bulldogs that competed at the Regional advanced to this weekend's Semi-State in Evansville.

     Back at the Ford Center

The Bulldogs will look to win their fifth consecutive IHSAA Wrestling Semi-State team championship this weekend in Evansville. Brownsburg boasts the longest active streak of Semi-State team championships in the state of Indiana.

Last season Brownsburg moved its Semi-State streak to four straight years as the Bulldogs topped runner-up Evansville Mater-Dei by 13.5 points. Brownsburg sent a school-record nine wrestlers to the 2019 IHSAA Wrestling State Finals.

220-pound Lawson Aiken and 285-pound Dorian Keys each won an individual Semi-State title last year.

     The Semi-State Field

Wrestlers from 60-different schools will all meet in Evansville this weekend for the IHSAA Semi-State at the Ford Center. Brownsburg will have the most wrestlers competing in the Evansville Semi-State this weekend. Evansville Mater Dei brings 11 wrestlers to the Ford Center while Terre Haute South will have 10 wrestlers competing.

Avon, Bloomington North, Brown County, Brownsburg, Castle, Center Grove, Columbus East, Edgewood, Evansville Central, Evansville Harrison, Evansville Mater Dei, Evansville Memorial, Floyd Central, Franklin, Gibson Southern, Heritage Hills, Jeffersonville, Martinsville, Monrovia, Mooresville, North Posey, South Spencer, Sullivan, Tell City, Terre Haute South and Plainfield each bring at least one wrestler who is ranked by IndianaMat.com.

Ten weight classes at the Evansville Semi-State feature at least three of the top-ten wrestlers in the state of Indiana according to IndianaMat. The most competitive weight class at the Evansville Semi-State perhaps may be 126 which consists of No.1 ranked Raymond Rioux (Avon) No.2 Ben Dalton (Monrovia), No.3 Gavin Alsott (Floyd Central), No.7 Kysen Montgomery (Brownsburg) and No.9 Ashton Hayhurst (Ev. Mater Dei). The 113-pound and 138-pound weight classes also feature three top-five wrestlers.

Five wrestlers at the Evansville Semi-State are ranked No.1 in the state. That list includes 106-pound Logan Miller and 285-pound Dorian Keys from Brownsburg.

The top four place winners in each weight class at the Evansville Semi-State advance to the 2020 IHSAA State Finals next weekend at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Downtown Indianapolis. The brackets in each weight class for the State Finals will be announced during the State Finals Pairings Show this Sunday on IHSAAtv.org
