Bio

One of the most accomplished athletes in Brownsburg history, Julie Waggoner is in her fifth year as the head coach of Brownsburg girls Track & Field.

Formerly the head coach of Brownsburg boys Track & Field from 2014 to 2016, she guided Hari Sathyamurthy to the 2015 IHSAA 800m State championship. Sathyamurthy also spearheaded Brownsburg's 2014 4x400m relay state championship under Waggoner. Since taking over the girls side in 2017, she has led the Bulldogs to a pair of IHSAA Sectional championships, including Brownsburg's 2018 squad which snapped a seven-year Sectional title drought for the program.

Waggoner has led Brownsburg individuals to two state championships, four state runner-up finishes, two indoor state championships, nine all-state selections and three Indiana All-Star selections as a head coach. She has also spent time as an Assistant Girls Cross country coach (2006-pres.), Assistant Track & Field coach (2007 to 2013) and Assistant Girls Basketball coach (2007-2014) at Brownsburg. 

The former four-sport athlete set the Brownsburg school record with 14 letters during her career as a Bulldog. Waggoner, formerly Julie Shields, is the school record-holder in the 800, 1600, 3200, 4x400 and 4x800 at Brownsburg. She was the IHSAA State runner-up in the 3200 as a freshman in 1998 and also a Sectional and Regional champion during her career. In cross-country, Waggoner was a three time conference champion, state qualifier and Brownsburg 4K record holder.

Also a highly acclaimed soccer player, she played on three Sectional championship teams, three Regional championship teams and a Semi-State championship team at Brownsburg. The three-time All-county, All-conference and All-metro team selection led Brownsburg in scoring and was voted Indiana Soccer Coaches association top team player her senior year.

On the hardwood, Waggoner received All-HCC First Team honors as Brownsburg won the HCC championship during the inaugural year of the conference in 2001. One of ten players in program history to surpass 1,000 career points, Waggoner's 1,318 career-points mark ranks seventh in program history. The two-time metro west player of the year and Indianapolis Star Super Team Selection was a member of IHSAA Regional finalist teams in 2000 and 2001.

Waggoner went on to compete in cross-country and track and field at Indiana University, where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in Health Education. She is a Physical Education teacher at Brownsburg and has three kids, Lyric, Axl, and Braxton, with her husband, Brandon.
