The Lady Aquadogs are sending 7 swimmers and 2 divers to State this weekend after winning their 7th Sectional Championship last weekend. Divers Maya Leman and Emma Wolf competed in Regionals this Tuesday and placed high enough to continue on to the State meet.

The Bulldogs are in the running with the following events:

200 Medley Relay: junior Maria Gutzweiler, sophomore Annika Schaekel, senior Julia Stonebraker and senior Joley Clodfelter

100 Fly: sophomore Annika Schaekel

500 Free: junior Ella Wilson

Last weekend, the 200 Medley Relay team broke a school record in addition to qualifying for State with a time of 1:50.11. The 200 Free Relay team followed suit by breaking the BHS record for the event as well as qualifying for State with a time of 1:39.08. The 400 Relay team, unsurprisingly, continued the trend with a State qualification and school record-breaking with a time of 3:36.48. Sophomore Annika Schaekel qualified for State with a time of 59.96 in the 100 Fly and junior Ella Wilson swam a 5:26.86 in the 500 Free, dropping 20 seconds off of her regular-season time.

Senior Maya Leman placed 3rd in Regionals this week with a score of 407.60. Junior Emma Wolf was close behind and placed 5th with a score of 404.05.

According to the IHSAA, 81 schools and 550 student-athletes have qualified for the State meet. Specifically, the defending State Champions, the Carmel Greyhounds, will be in attendance. If the Greyhounds win State it will be their 34th consecutive year winning the title.

State preliminaries will take place Friday, Feb. 14 at 6:00 PM at IU Natatorium at IUPUI with doors opening at 4:30 PM. According to the IHSAA, "The top 16 in each swimming event during Friday's prelims will return for competition on Saturday with the top eight individuals vying for state championship honors. Those finishing nine through 16 on Friday will make up the competitors in the consolation heats. All diving will take place on Saturday with the top 20 of 32 competitors advancing from the prelims to the semis after five dives each. After three dives each in the semis, the top 16 will advance to the final round for another three dives each."

The State meet will also be at IU Natatorium at IUPUI on Saturday, Feb. 15. Diving preliminaries and semi-finals will take place at 9:00 AM with doors opening at 7:30 AM. Swimming consolation and finals will begin at 1:00 PM.
