Big Night for Boys Track & Field at the Jeff Regional

The boys track team traveled to Lafayette Jefferson to compete in the IHSAA Regional Track and Field meet. The boys finished third scoring 80 points. The Bulldogs were led by the Thomas brothers who scored 40 points between them. Reis Thomas won the discus, breaking his own school record and throwing 175-7. Reis also threw a season best 48-11 in the shot put to finish 7th. Pierce won the long jump, breaking his own school record jumping 23-7.25. Pierce also finished 2nd in the 200 meter dash running 22.05. In other field event action, the boys placed 2nd and 5th in the high jump. Marcos Barbosa (2nd) and Tyray Lackey (5th) both cleared 6-4.5 and both will compete next week in the state finals. On the track, Gavin Waltz ran a personal best 10.94 and finished in 3rd. Shai Sumpter-Bey ran 10.98 in that event and finished 4th. Both will compete next week in the state finals. The 4x100 meter relay team of Pierce Thomas, Gavin Waltz, Andrew Tetrick, and Shai Sumpter-Bey won the regional title running a school record 42.00. That time is the best 4x100 meter relay time in the state of Indiana this year. Tyler Nolan ran a personal best 1:57.1 in the 800 meter run to finish 7th and Alex Freeman ran a personal best 4:25.84 in the 1600 meter run to finish 6th. Senior Tyrone Griffin was 7th in both the 110 meter hurdles and the 300 meter hurdles. The boys will travel to Bloomington next week to compete in the state finals.
