Varsity Football uses dominant second half to beat Franklin Central

by Jarod Lipson

After struggling in the second half in Weeks 1 and 2, Brownsburg put together a dominant second frame en route to a 41-14 victory over Franklin Central on Friday.

The Flashes got on the board first, but it didn't take long for the Bulldogs to answer. After a 28-yard Preston Terrell reception put Brownsburg in the redzone, Donovan Marcus converted with a 7-yard touchdown run.

After a 37-yard catch on a drive that ended without points, Terrell caught a 36-yarder to put Brownsburg into Franklin Central territory again. He would end up converting himself with a 7-yard touchdown catch to give Brownsburg the 13-7 lead.

After Dane Middlebrook blocked a punt deep in Flash territory, Terrell converted again with a 12-yard touchdown catch.

Terrell had over 120 yards receiving and two touchdown catches in the first half. The Bulldogs led 20-7 at halftime.

"It was huge," head coach John Hart said. "[Terrell] went up and got some balls and he's capable of that. I'm really proud of him."

It took less than four minutes in the second half for Brownsburg to extend their lead. Luke Lacey made an incredible catch over a defender and somehow got a foot in bounds in the endzone off a perfect 32-yard throw from Ben Easters. The catch made the score 27-7 with the Bulldogs on top.

Franklin Central closed the gap with a touchdown of their own, but once again, Brownsburg had an answer. CJ Tanner returned an interception to the Flashes' 8-yard line and Marcus converted with a 2-yard touchdown run to extend the lead to 34-14.

Jakobi McGowan's Pick 6 finished the scoring and brought the final to 41-14.

Brownsburg is now 2-1 with a 1-0 record in conference play.

The Bulldogs are back in action at Avon next week at 7 pm.
