No. 2 @BHSdogsfootball set for road trip to St. Xavier

The varsity football team will continue their 2019 campaign this Friday (Aug. 30) as they travel to Ohio high school football power St. Xavier. That matchup is set to kick off at 7 p.m. from Cincinnati, Ohio. 

About the Bulldogs 

Brownsburg is 1-0 on the year and is coming off a thrilling 29-24 win over Ben Davis to open the season Aug 23. The Bulldogs mounted a 29-10 halftime lead before resting on the backs of their defense to close out the win. With the Bulldogs leading late in the game, the Giants threatened as they marched into Brownsburg territory. The Bulldog's defense halted Ben Davis on 4th and 3 with just over a minute to go to close out the game.  

Donny Marcus totaled 134 yards in the win over the Giants. He accounted for 58 yards on the final drive to help the Bulldogs chew clock and secure the win. QB Ben Easters threw for 150 yards in the win and found WR Luke Lacey for a pair of touchdowns in the first half. 

Following the win, the Bulldogs are slotted in the No. 2 spot of this week's Associated Press Class 6A poll. 

About the Bombers

The mathcup is the first of the season for St. Xavier who is ranked as the No. 11 team in the state of Ohio by MaxPreps.com. The Bombers are coming off a 5-6 year in 2018 that saw them fall in their OHSAA Football State Playoffs opener to Colerain. 

WR Liam Clifford, a three-star recruit, leads the Bomber attack after scoring six touchdowns in 2018. He caught 17 passes for 268 yards as a sophomore while running four times for 86 yards. Northwestern TE commit Marshall Lang caught 22 passes for 316 yards and three TDs last season. 

On the other side of the ball, TJ O'Malley leads the St. X defense. 

Brownsburg vs St. Xavier: Tidbits

  • Brownsburg QB Ben Easters completed 61 percent of his passes in the Bulldogs season-opening win over Ben Davis
  • The matchup will be the Bulldogs' first game played outside the state of Indiana since before 1994
  • Brownsburg was third in the Hoosier Crossroads conference last season in points scored; St. Xavier ended worst in the four-team Greater Catholic League South in points allowed
  • Brownsburg went 5-1 when playing away from home in 2018; St. Xavier notched a 2-3 record at home last year
  • Since 2014, St. Xavier has played a game against a school from Indiana eight times; They went 4-3 in those matchups
