Varsity Football: Season Preview

Varsity Football: Season Preview

by Jarod Lipson

The Brownsburg football team has little room for improvement in the win column this year after finishing 10-1 last season. But after a bitter 38-0 loss to Avon in the sectional final, the Bulldogs are looking to come back better than ever.

Staying on top

The team won as many games as they did last year with very little experience and very young talent. Head Coach John Hart put it best.

"We found a way to win games," he said.

With more experience this year and all of the key contributors a year older, they should be able to continue to find a way to win games on paper. The games aren't played on paper though, so avoiding a letdown after a successful season is a must.

Players to watch

There are numerous players on this team with Division I offers or commitments to play in college.

Josh Sales and Pete Nygra on the offensive line each have Division I offers.

Wide receiver Preston Terrell has an offer from Purdue and running back Donovan Marcus is committed to Ball State.

Quarterback Ben Easters is committed to Kansas.

Two all-state defensive tackles return, Dane Middlebrook and Dorian Keys. Middlebrook is committed to Tulane.

Watch for these players to contribute this year as well as continue to develop for the next level.

Big games

The team makes an effort to play a tougher schedule each year than the last and that certainly can be said this year. The season starts against Ben Davis, who the program has never beaten. Week two gets no easier as the Bulldogs travel to Cincinnati to take on St. Xavier, a nationally ranked program. Brownsbug plays at Avon on Sep. 13.

The season kicks off at home against Ben Davis on Aug. 23.
