Volleydogs Sweep Fishers 3-0

Varsity Volleyball had a night at Fishers. After losing to the Tigers in the New Castle Invitational this weekend, the Volleydogs battled back and pulled off a 3-0 sweep tonight.

Set 1 started off in the Bulldogs favor. Fishers called a timeout with the Bulldogs up 13-7 after senior Skyy Smith and sophomore Audrey Naberhaus had an excellent block. The Tigers had to call another timeout after senior Marah Wood hit a kill and the Bulldogs led 17-11. The set ended with a score of 25-21.

In the middle of set 2, the Tigers were slightly pulling ahead 16-14. The Bulldogs quickly responded with several impressive plays including a block by senior Ashley Margetts and Naberhaus and Skyy Smith with a strategic tip for one point and a kill for the next. The point that gave the Dogs a 25-23 win for the set was executed by junior Jaelyn Keown and Wood. Keown saved a wild pass, passing it up for Wood to tip the ball slightly over the net for the win.

The last set was an accumulation of the previous sets. Senior Audrey Gordon and Naberhaus executed a block to earn the Bulldogs a 10-7 lead, forcing Fishers to eventually call a timeout 2 points later. The final point of the match for the 3-0 win was a save by junior Morgan Syoen and a smart pass over the net by freshman Ella Hemmings

Head Coach Katie Maples is incredibly proud of her team, saying, "This was kind of the first match we've put together a full night of playing the way we've been working on playing, the culture we've been building."

Offensive leads were freshman Quinci Thomas with 11 kills, senior Skyy Smith with 5 kills, senior Katie Hardegree with 15 assists and junior Morgan Syoen with 14 assists.

Defensive leads were senior Marah Wood with 3 blocks and senior Audrey Gordon and freshman Quinci Thomas with 2 blocks each. Junior Maddie Smith led the team in digs tonight with 13, followed by senior Ashley Margetts and freshman Ella Hemmings with 9 digs each.

The Bulldogs are back on Tuesday, September 24th at McCutcheon. Freshman and JV will play at 5:30PM followed by Varsity.
