#ForTheBell: Volleyball Wins Over Avon

By: Maddie Greer

It was evident early on that both teams were hungry tonight. Every point was a fight from both sides and the Bulldogs ended with a well-earned win.

Set 1 was a close one. Both teams were incredibly close on scoring, but Brownsburg pulled a lead towards the midway point to win the set 25-20.

Avon was forced to call a timeout at 14-9 in set 2 after senior Skyy Smith rocked them with a kill. Brownsburg led 2-0 after winning set 2 25-16.

The 3rd set came down to who wanted it more. Brownsburg had a clear lead early on, but Avon caught up. The last 4 points of the set were a pull back and forth, but Avon prevailed 27-25.

Freshman powerhouse Quinci Thomas sent Avon into a timeout early in set 4 with a stellar kill. Brownsburg took over and won with a set score of 25-17.

Head coach Katie Maples commended her team, saying, "We just did a really good job of coming out with some energy, which seems obvious thing against a rival but it's tough sometimes to balance the pressure and the excitement. We had some people playing out of position because of a few injuries and those girls did a phenomenal job."

Offensive leaders tonight were freshman Quinci Thomas with 20 kills, senior Skyy Smith with 11 kills, junior Morgan Syoen with 28 assists and junior Cate Murphy with 18 assists.

Defensive leads were senior Ashley Margetts with 24 digs and junior Cate Murphy again with 11 digs. Additionally, Skyy Smith and Quinci Thomas had 2 blocks each along with sophomore Audrey Naberhaus with 3 blocks.

The Dogs are back this Saturday, September 14th, at the New Castle Invitational starting at 10:00 AM.
