Behind a double-double from Morgan Syoen, the varsity volleyball team (2-0) remained unbeaten on the young season after a 3-1 win over Cathedral. The win marked the first time since 2017 that the Bulldogs have won their two opening matches.

Syoen posted 20 assists and 16 digs for the Bulldogs while Quinci Thomas notched 16 kills to lead the offense. Libero Ella Hemmings totaled 27 digs.

Brownsburg built a 2-0 lead in the match before Cathedral could respond by winning the third set. The Bulldogs were tested throughout the match in what was a back and forth affair from the get-go.

After neither team built more than a 2-point lead to start the first set, Brownsburg used a 9-2 closing run to win 25-18 over the Irish. They followed that up by holding off a late 6-3 Cathedral surge to win the second set 25-21.

Cathedral would build a 10-3 advantage over the Bulldogs in Set 3 and never looked back. Despite a 7-3 Brownsburg run late in the set, the Irish held on and won 25-20 to prevent the Bulldogs from sweeping their second straight opponent.

Brownsburg jumped out to a 20-13 advantage in the fourth set to win 25-19 and close out the match.

The Bulldogs will continue their 2019 campaign with a trip to No. 3 Center Grove on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
