School Record Broken at Girls' Regional

The girls track team competed well in the regional at West Lafayette last evening finishing in the top ten!  Sibong Ncube qualified for the state meet on June 1st placing third in the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 15.39!  Laura Bess broke the school record in the 1600 meters in a time of 4:59.38, placing second and qualifying for state in the event as well.  Bess also qualified in a loaded 3200 meter field, placing fifth, but finishing under the state standard in a time of 11:14.03!  Eight girls qualified for state in the 3200 by beating the state standard of 11:20!
 
Others who placed well and scored points in the meet were Rocky Sulkoske 8th in the 100 meter hurdles in 16.4, and  Florence Akinribade, Briana Smith, Ncube, and Sulkoske 5th in the 4x100 relay in a time of 51.5.  Finishing in the top ten were Akinribade 10th in the 200 meters, Rachel Smith 9th in the 800 meters, Sydney Lesko 10th in the 3200 meters, Jolori Schafer and Kerry Devney 9th and 10th in the 300 meter hurdles, Tavon McCollum, Morgan Weller, Lauren Markovich, and Sulkoske 10th in 4x400 meter relay.  KJ Gaerke and Jill Zimmerman posted PRs in the 4x800 meter relay to finish 11th with co-runners Cassidy Brown and Julia Popenfoose.
 
The state meet will be held in Bloomington on Friday, June 1st at 3 p.m.
