The Brownsburg varsity girls' soccer team defeated Mooresville 3-1 to advance in the 2019 IHSAA Girls Soccer State Tournament. The Bulldogs moved on to play Avon for the Sectional 9 Championship Saturday night.

Browsburg erased a 1-0 deficit to score three unanswered goals and secure a win over the Pioneers.

The Pioneers, who were outshot 31-1, scored their lone goal against the run of play in the 11th minute. Brownsburg had controlled possesion early but found themselves down at goal late in the first half.

Jayden Gibson then stepped up and scored her second goal of the season off a shot from distance in the 38th minute. She had the match level at one goal a piece after 40 minutes.

Brownsburg would dominate again in the second half. The Bulldogs were able to tack onto their lead off goals from Grace Crawford (52') and Chloe Gill (65')

Crawford's goal came off a nice service from Sam Vondersaar on the near side. The chance brought the goalkeeper off her line, opening the door for Crawford's sixth goal of the season.

Gill put the cherry on top of the win with a rocket from the top of the box to make it 3-1.

Up Next

Saturday's match will be the first time since 2012 that the Bulldogs play in a sectional championship. Coincidently, the last time Brownsburg won a girls soccer sectional championship was that same year.

The Bulldogs beat the Orioles 1-0 back on September 11th in the regular season meeting between the schools. Taelyn Hendrickson's header-goal in the 80th minute gave Brownsburg the win in that matchup.

It will mark the fourth consecutive year that Brownsburg and Avon meet in the postseason.

Kick off is set for 7 p.m. from Decatur Central High School.
