The varsity girls' soccer team went 1-1 in a pair of matchups at the Zionsville Invite on Sep. 7. The Bulldogs knocked off Assumption (KY) 1-0 before falling to Brunswick (OH) 1-0. The Bulldogs finish the weekend with a 3-2-2 record.

Brownsburg vs Assumption

In game one, Brownsburg's defense was stout in a 1-0 win over Assumption. Lydia Emmert was the goal scorer for the Bulldogs off a dish from Courtney Kreilein in the 53rd minute.

The win marked the Bulldogs' second consecutive shutout performance as the Brownsburg limited the Rockets to just four shots. At the completion of the match, the Bulldogs were riding a four-game unbeated streak.

Despite the lone goal, Brownsburg's offense was potent throughout. The Bulldogs controlled the majority of the match's possession and found themselves in several one-on-one opportunities with the Assumption goalkeeper.

In the 72nd minute, Emmert nearly scored a second time, but the shot instead rang off the top corner of the net.

Brownsburg vs Brunswick

In game two, the Bulldogs went toe-to-toe with the Blue Devils. Brunswick is ranked as the No. 25 team in the nation in TopDrawerSoccer.com's "Fall Fab 50 High School Soccer Team Rankings".

Brunswick struck first in the match despite an even pace of play through the first 10 minutes. Alexa Mackey scored for the Blue Devils and the Bulldogs would spend the rest of the half trying to find the equalizer.

Brownsburg's defense continued their recent tear as they limited the Blue Devils offense throughout the match. Brunswick was only able to muster four shots on the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs' offense was never able to connect, but the Bulldogs nearly found the equalizer with time expiring. Grace Crawford drew a foul inside the box with no time left on the clock to give the Bulldogs a penalty kick. Brownsburg's PK sailed high to preserve a win for Brunswick.

Brownsburg will travel to B&O "Rotary Trail Bell" rival Avon for their next mathcup on Sept. 11.
