Bio

One of the most successful active high school wrestling coaches in the state, Indiana Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame member Darrick Snyder wrapped up his eighth year at the helm of the Brownsburg Wrestling program in 2021.

Snyder led Brownsburg to an historic season in 2021-2022, where the Bulldogs were ranked as high as No.10 in the nation by InterMat Wrestling and finished as IHSAA State Runner-up for the third time in program history. The Bulldogs extended program-record streaks for Hoosier Crossroads Conference, IHSAA Sectional and IHSAA Regional championships while also claiming the program's first IHSAA Semi-State championship since 2019. Brownsburg posted an 18-1 dual record under Snyder in 2021-2022.

At the 2022 IHSAA State Finals Brownsburg set the new program mark with 8 IHSAA State placers. 106-pound freshman Jake Hockaday claimed the IHSAA State championship, becoming the first freshman in program history to claim an IHSAA State title. Snyder guided Hockaday to a 43-2 record in his freshman campaign and a wire-to-wire No.1 ranking by IndianaMat.

Brownsburg had four placers at the 2021 IHSAA State Finals including 132-pound State champion Kysen Montgomery. Montgomery's win over No.1 Alec Freeman of Evansville Mater Dei extended Brownsburg's streak of IHSAA Individual State champions to six seasons at the time, the second-longest streak in the state of Indiana. The Bulldogs won their sixth consecutive IHSAA Sectional and IHSAA Regional championships under Snyder's leadership in 2021. Brownsburg also won a Hoosier Crossroads Conference Championship for the seventh consecutive season

Snyder's hire in 2014 marked the beginning of an impressive turnaround for Brownsburg. The Bulldogs went from a seventh place Hoosier Crossroads Conference finish in 2013 to a conference crown in 2015, his second year at the helm of the program. The conference championship snapped an eight-year drought for Brownsburg and kicked off what is now the second-longest championship streak in HCC history.

He has led Brownsburg to four IHSCWA Dual State championships and the 2017 IHSAA State Championship in eight years with the program. The Bulldogs are 143-23 in duals since Snyder took over including undefeated dual seasons in 2016 and 2018.

2016-2017 was an historic campaign for Brownsburg as the Bulldogs were crowned IHSAA Wrestling State Champions for the first time in school history. Brownsburg posted a 16-1 dual record in the regular season, and went on to sweep IHSAA Sectional, Regional and Semi-State championships. Brownsburg had eight participants that qualified for the state finals and three that made it to the state championship round. 145-pound Brayton Lee, the only three-time IHSAA State champion in Brownsburg history, won the second of his three titles in 2017.

Four Bulldogs have won an IHSAA State championship under Snyder's tutelage including Lee, who snapped a 39-year drought with his 2016 title, Dorian Keys, Logan Miller and Montgomery.

Snyder's 21-year coaching career also includes a stop at Mishawaka High School in Northern Indiana, where Snyder led the Cavemen to a pair of IHSAA State championships and was named the Indiana Wrestling Coach of the Year. Mishawaka was an 8-time Northern Indiana Conference Champion, 7-time IHSAA Sectional champion, IHSAA Regional champions, and Semi-State Champions in Snyder's tenure. The program also crowned eight IHSAA Individual State Champions.

Snyder is one of just two coaches in state history to have won IHSAA State titles at two different schools.

He graduated as a Northern Indiana Conference champion and IHSAA State placer at Mishawka. Snyder went on to wrestle for North Central College in Naperville, Illinois, where he broke the school record for most career wins. Snyder also earned a bachelors degree in History and Secondary Education while on campus.

Snyder, a Social Studies teacher at Brownsburg, has a son (Brecken) with his wife Jacinta, who he has been married to for 15 years.
