By Keelen Barlow

The Brownsburg varsity girls' basketball team fell in both games during their trip to the 2019 Raymond James Hall of Fame Classic. The Bulldogs finished fourth at the tournament after losses to No.7/4 Penn 43-40 in Game 1 and Class 3A No.3 Salem 42-38 in Game 2.

Mackenzie Bedrick (sickness) did not play in either game.

     GAME 1:

Despite 19 points from Allison Bosse the Bulldogs fell to undefeated Penn in their opening game at the Raymond James Hall of Fame Classic. Brownsburg's fourth quarter rally fell short and the Bulldogs were handed the loss.

Brownsburg jumped out to an 8-1 run and forced a timeout from the Kinsgmen in the first quarter. Penn responded to lead 15-11 after the opening quarter.

The Bulldogs would fight back to even the score late in the game, but Penn never trailed after the first quarter. Brownsburg's offense struggled as the Bulldogs shot 27.1 percent from the field.

Defense was stout on both sides as the score was 22-20 at the half. The Kingsmen opened the third quarter on a 4-0 surge but the Bulldogs battled back to tie the game at 26.

Penn led 32-30 after three quarters.

Penn led by three points with less than 30 seconds to go in the game. The Bulldogs were able to muster a couple clean looks from deep, but Brownsburg couldn't connect and ultimately fell to the Kingsmen.

     GAME 2:

Brownsburg and Salem remained close throughout the first half as the largest lead on either side was just four points. Brownsburg's depth was tested as Ally Becki and Allison Bosse both went down with injuries in the game. Becky did not return to the game but Bosse would check back in a few minutes after her injury.

Bosse led Brownsburg with 10 points and 7 rebounds in the loss. Mackenzie Stien had 9 points and 5 rebounds.

The Bulldogs were stuck in another rough shooting effort in the second game as scoring was limited. Salem led Brownsburg 20-16 at the break after a strong surge to end the first half.

The Lions' lead swelled as big as nine points in the second half, but Brownsburg cut it to just 3 with 1:08 left in the fourth. Salem would hold off the Bulldogs for the win.
