Bulldogs Run Comes To An End Against Ben Davis

The varsity girls' basketball team faced off against the number one team in the state and the two-time defending champion Ben Davis Giants in the sectional final of the IHSAA state tournament on Saturday night.

The Dogs' defense struggled early, allowing 18 first quarter points.   The Dogs trailed 18-7 at the end of one.

After making defensive adjustments in the second quarter and executing on the offensive end, the Dogs produced an 11-0 run in the span of about three minutes and went into half time trailing, 28-21.

Alaura McKemie scored eight of her team high 13 points in the second quarter,  and finished the game 4-4 from the field.

The Dogs pulled even late in the third, allowing Ben Davis to score only four points in the quarter.  The Dogame was tied at 32 with seven minutes to play.

The Dogs continued to play hard, grabbing several defensive rebounds late in the game, but could not convert on the offensive end.  Turnovers cost the team down the stretch and the Dogs were then forced to foul.  The Giants hit 12 - 13 free throws in the final minutes of action to end the Dogs' season by the final score of 55-42.

Seven seniors-  Alaura McKemie, Morgan Miller, Erika Lesch, Ryne Carr, Lindsey Dall, Elissa Hall and Shelby Morphew received a standing ovation from the entire gym as they poured their heart into their final high school performance.

Stephanie Mavunga finished with 12 points, 10 defensive rebounds and five blocks.  Dall added nine points and nine rebounds.  Ryne Carr played outstanding defense, guarding Ms. Basketball candidate Bria Goss and holding her below her scoring average.  Carr also pulled down three boards, dished out three assists and finished with three steals.

With a 20-5 record, this team is among an elite group of Brownsburg girls' basketball teams.  This team is one of only five teams with 20 or more wins in a season - in the history of Brownsburg Girls' Basketball.
