Bulldogs Hold On For Win Over Avon.

The varsity girls' basketball team improved to 3-1 on the season by defeating Avon 53-49 on Friday night.

The Dogs trailed the Orioles for most of the first half, falling behind by as many as nine points early in the second quarter.

The Dogs turned up their full court defense, forcing 26 Avon turnovers on the night, and went into halftime tied 20-20.

After several lead changes in the third quarter, the Dogs pushed the lead to 35-28 on an Allison DeVaney jumper heading into the fourth quarter.  DeVaney finished the night with 10 points on 4 of 6 shooting and was perfect from the free throw line, and also grabbed five boards.

The Dogs extended their lead to 13 points with 4:42 remaining in the fourth quarter, but Avon would rally late in the fourth to make for an exciting finish for the big fieldhouse crowd.

Stephanie Mavunga carried the Dogs with 22 points, 10 rebounds, six blocks and two steals.  Lindsey Dall was aggressive in the post, pulling down seven boards and chipping in six points.  Morgan Miller dished out five assists and had four steals to go along with her six points.

Mavunga, Dall, Miller, Erika Lesch and Ryne Carr each hit a pair of free throws down the stretch to help secure the win.
