JV Win

The JV purple softball team traveled to Cathedral High School on Monday evening to try and rebound from their first loss of the season. The ladies responded in a big way by routing the Irish 14-4. They started off slow in the 90-degree heat, but defense and pitching carried them until the bats woke up in the 4th inning.

Offensively freshman Kiersten Huff and junior Rachel Young led the way going 3-5 and scoring two runs each. Huff also had five steals on the day. Also contributing were junior Ciara Casteel and sophomore Emily Walkup going 2-5 with two runs scored. Casteel had 4 RBI on the day including a two-run homerun in the 5th that started to break the game open. Junior Camryn Cardinal was 2-2 with a walk and scored two runs.

Defensively freshman Maddy Edwards earned the victory in the circle pitching six innings of three run ball. She scattered seven hits over the six innings, had five strikeouts and gave up two base on balls while facing 29 batters. Sophomore Mallerie Gordon came in to close out the game in the seventh and kept the Irish ladies off balance to secure the win.

The JV purple ladies next play tonight at HSE for their final game of the season. They hope to end the season undefeated in conference play.
