JV Splits

The Brownsburg JV White softball team traveled to Zionsville on Saturday for the Eagle Invitational tournament.

In the opener on Saturday morning against Avon, the Dogs stumbled offensively as they were limited to four hits by the strong pitching and defense of the Orioles.  The top half of the order again provided the offensive spark for the JV White as Bri Howard, Emilee Deitche, Natalie Metzger, and Macee Gipson collected the hits for the Dogs, with Deitche's being a double.

Defensively, Deitche took to the circle and held Avon scoreless for 3 1/3 innings before surrendering a single run in the fourth and three more in the fifth.  The freshman deserved a better fate as she scattered nine hits, going the distance while striking out five Oriole hitters and walking only one in the 4-0 loss.

The consolation game against host Zionsville provided further proof of what strong pitching can do for a team.  Freshman Natalie Metzger pitched a complete game, surrendering seven hits while striking out five and walking none.  The Eagles could muster only a single run in the fourth inning as the Dogs walked away with a 5-1 win.

Offensively, freshman Taylor Ballinger lead the Dogs, going 2 for 3 with a walk and a run scored.  Ballinger also provided solid defense for the White squad, making several clutch plays in key moments to help stifle Zionsville rallies.  Freshmen Bri Howard, Metzger, Macee Gipson, Carmen Siebens, and Makayla Mills as well as sophomore Allie Manwaring all added hits to the Brownsburg total.

The JV White squad's next game is Wednesday the 16th as they travel to Lawrence Central.
