JV Wins

On the kind of warm, sunny day the man upstairs surely made just for softball, the Brownsburg JV White team went 2-0 to win the championship of the Carmel JV Invite on Saturday.

In the opener against the host Greyhounds, the Dogs put seven runs on the board in the first inning and never looked back, beating Carmel by a score of 26-4.

Offensively, sophomore Kiersten Huff led the barrage, going five for five including a double.  Freshman Natalie Metzger was three for five with a double, and fellow freshmen Macie Gipson and Taylor Ballinger each had two hits to add to the offensive onslaught.

Defensively, the JV White squad rode the right arm of freshman Emilee Deitche, who scattered seven hits in a five inning complete game.

The title game against Roncalli proved to be a classic pitcher's duel, with the Dogs falling behind 2-0 after two and a half innings. But Brownsburg managed to put up a three spot on the Rebels in the bottom of the third as freshmen Emilee Deitche, Bri Howard, Natalie Metzger, and Taylor Ballinger joined sophomore Mallerie Gordon in stringing together base hits to take the lead away and never give it back as the 3-2 lead would hold and the Bulldogs would win the title.

The story defensively for Brownsburg was the masterful pitching performance of Gordon, who went the distance for the Dogs, scattering six hits while striking out four and surrendering only single runs in both the second and third innings.  It was a true workhouse effort in the circle, to be sure.

The JV White team travels to Westfield on Thursday, May 10th for a 6:00 contest.
