Bio

Nick Balbach is heading into his sixth year as the Head Coach for the Boys Cross Country team and as the Assistant Boys’ Track Coach for the Bulldogs. His tenure at Brownsburg has been highlighted by three consecutive IHSAA Sectional championships from 2018 to 2020 and an IHSAA State Finals podium finish in 2019. 

Brownsburg won a third straight sectional championship under Balbach in the fall of 2020. Senior Trevor Nolan finished 10th at the 2020 IHSAA State Finals and became Brownsburg's second Indiana All-Star under Balbach's tutleage (Alex Freeman, 2019). 

The 2019 campaign marked one of the most successful seasons in program history for Brownsburg Boys Cross country. The Bulldogs won a second straight Sectional championship and were crowned IHSAA Regional champions for the first time since 2012. The Bulldogs appeared in the IHSAA State Finals for the first time in program history, finishing on the podium in 5th place. 

Balbach won the HCC Coach of the Year award and was a nominee for the 2019 IATCCC Coach of the Year following the season.  

Prior to taking over at Brownsburg, he coached at Ben Davis High School where he won three Sectional Championships and a pair of Regional Championships.

Balbach graduated from Heritage Hills High School as a four year letter winner for Track and Cross Country. He attended Bellarmine University, where he was a two-year Varsity Runner from 2000 to 2002. Balbach earned his Bachelor's degree in K-5 Elementary Education and K-12 Special Education. 

Off the course, Balbach is a Special Education and Math Teacher at Brownsburg and a parent to five children: Trey, Eli, Emmy, Max and Abram.
