His fifth year at the helm of the program was a record-setting campaign for the Bulldogs. Brownsburg won consecutive HCC championships and IHSAA Sectional championships for the first time in school history during the 2021 campaign. Brownsburg held on to the state's No.2 ranking heading into the IHSAA State Finals, where he Bulldogs clinched the school's highest overall finish at the finals meet. Brownsburg finished as State Runner-Up for the first time in program history.

Junior John Colquitt was crowned the IHSAA State champion in the 100m hurdles and 300m hurdles, becoming Brownsburg's second individual State champion under Popenfoose (Pierce Thomas; 2019). At the 2021 HCC meet, Colquitt swept the hurdles and ran on a winning relay, leading Brownsburg to the repeat HCC championship.
