Boys & Girls' T&F Win Decatur Invite

BOYS:

The varsity boys track and field team traveled to Decatur Central Friday evening to compete in the Joe Schott Invitational. The Bulldogs won the invitational, scoring 149½ and beating a talented Warren Central track team by 34 points. In the field events, the Bulldogs were led by the Thomas boys. Pierce Thomas jumped 22'7" which not only won the long jump, it set a new varsity school record. Reis Thomas won the Discus with a toss of 160'11" and was 3rd in the shot put, throwing 46'2.5". Both throws for Reis were personal bests. Other top 4 finishers in the field events included: Dane Middlebrook 4th in the shot put (45'6.5") and 4th in the discus (131'5"), Marcos Barbosa 4th in the high jump (5'10"). On the track, the Bulldogs had a ton of strong showings in the sprint events. Bryce Kirtz led the way scoring 28 total points. Bryce won the 100 in a time of 11.15, the 400 in a time of 50.27, and anchored the 2nd place 4x400 meter relay team with a split of 48.9 seconds. Along with Bryce, all of the other members of that 4x400 meter relay team ran personal bests: Trey FIsher (53.3), Jack Parker (52.8), and Kyle Davis (51.9). Shai Sumpter-Bey was another standout on the track. Shai set personal bests in the 100 meter dash and the 200 meter dash. He finished 3rd in the 100 running 11.3 and 2nd in the 200 running 22.58. Tyrone Griffin finished 2nd in both the 300 meter hurdles and the 110 meter hurdles. Tyrone ran 41.97 in the 300's which was a personal best and 16.25 in the 110's. Leigh Nutall won the 110's in a personal best time of 15.49. In the distance events, the boys 4x800 meter relay team placed 2nd. Alex Freeman, Tyler Nolan, and Christian Hammerlay all ran personal bests: Alex Freeman (2:05.9), Tyler Nolan (2:05.8), Charles Voglewede (2:10.5), Christian Hammerly (2:04.2). Alex Freeman also won the 3200 meter run. Christian Hammerly finished 2nd in the 800 meter run (2:04.49) and Bryan Lomax was 4th in the 800 meter run (2:05.61). Jacob Kodrick was 4th in the 1600 meter run in a time of 4:48.5. The Bulldogs are back on the track Tuesday at home against Plainfield/Mooresville.

GIRLS:

The girls track and field team is the Decatur Central Twilight Invitational Champs! The girls won the field of 8 teams with runner-up Ben Davis 44 points behind them. Top performances for the Bulldogs were Joy Sopitan with first place finishes in the 100 and 200 meters, Mackenzie Stien taking first in the 110 hurdles, Gabby Bische 2nd in the 1600, Angie Neddeau and Ally Becki finishing 2nd and 3rd in the 400, Michaela Barrett with a personal best in the 300 hurdles with a 3rd place finish, Gabby Bische winning the 800 followed by Anna Boone in 3rd, and Ali Ray finishing 2nd in the 3200 meter run. In the field events, Ali Ray placed 3rd in the pole vault. The girls will host Plainfield and Mooresville on Tuesday. Go Bulldogs!
