Track Opens Indoor Season

The boys track and field team traveled to IU Friday night to compete in their first indoor meet of the season. Eli Johnson finished first place in the high jump with a jump of 6'4". Hari Sathyamurthy also took home first place in the 1600. In a very competitive field, Devin Humes had a personal best throw in the shot put to finish 2nd. Toks Akinribade and Bryce Kirtz qualified for the finals in the 60m finishing 6th and 7th. Jaylon Keith and Corey Griffen also qualified for the finals in the 60 Hurdles and finished 5th and 8th place overall. The 4 x 800 relay of Devon Boone, Marcus Fierek, Levi Wilbur, and Hari finished 2nd. The 4 x 200 relay of Toks, Tyler Kirtz, Devin Robinson, and Hunter Johnson finished in 2nd. The team will travel to Wabash college on Tuesday for their next indoor meet. Go Dogs! 

 

The Girls' Track team kicked off their season with Friday night at Indiana University and while team scores were not kept, several girls and relay teams put in performances that put them in line to qualify for the indoor State meet.  Courtney Stull and Claire Hathaway started their Senior season by once again finishing towards the top with Stull placing second in the 60m Hurdles and Hathaway finishing 3rd in the Long Jump with a jump of 16' 10". The 4x200 team of Joy Sopitan, Lizzie Daniels, Kaya Hill, and Hathaway put in a great race and time finishing 4th overall out of 17 teams. Freshman Te'a Nibbs started her HS career with the 3rd best jump in the high jump at 4' 10". It was also a nice night for Grace Esterline as she finished her 1600m in her best time ever by over 15 seconds at 5:59. Great job to the entire team and good luck tomorrow at Wabash!
