Bio

One of the most accomplished active coaches in the state of Indiana, 6-time IHSAA State champion head coach Spencer Fields took over for Brownsburg Boys' and Girls' tennis in 2018. He has guided the Boys' tennis program to historic success while setting a strong foundation with the Girls' tennis program in a short tenure.

The 2020 Boys' tennis season was a banner year for the program. Led by the state's No.2 player Petar Petrovic, Brownsburg won an IHSAA Regional and IHSAA Semi-State championship for the first time in program history. The Bulldogs made their first appearance in the IHSAA Tennis State Finals, coming two wins shy of the state championship match.

Petrovic finished his senior season as the State-Runner up after making Brownsburg's first individual appearance (Boys' or Girls') in the IHSAA Tennis State Finals match. Under Fields' tutelage, Petrovic was 24-3 as a senior and took the state's No.1 player to three sets in the 2020 IHSAA Singles State championship match.

Fields' 26-year coaching career has resulted in six IHSAA team state championships, five IHSAA Singles State championships and four IHSAA Doubles state championships. He started his career with short stints at Indianapolis Scecina (1995) and Brebeuf Jesuit (1996-1998) before spending nine seasons at the helm of the North Central Boys' tennis program (1999-2008) where he guided the Panthers to the 2000 and 2007 IHSAA Team State Championships. North Central won the 2002 and 2004 IHSAA Doubles State championship under Fields leadership. He spent two years as the Panthers Girls' head coach, leading the program to the 2008 IHSAA Doubles State championship.

He left the high school coaching ranks in 2008 before returning to lead the Park Tudor Boys' program to an IHSAA State runner-up finish in 2013. Fields guided Panther Danny Rayl to a combined 51-0 record over two seasons and back-to-back IHSAA Singles state championships in 2013 and 2014. Fields took over both programs at Carmel from 2015 to 2018. He left for Brownsburg on the heels of back-to-back Boys' and Girls' IHSAA Team state titles. The 2016 Carmel Boys' squad is one of just four teams in state history to sweep IHSAA Team, Singles and Doubles state championships. Meanwhile, Greyhound Patrick Fletchall became the second of Fields' players to post back-to-back undefeated IHSAA Singles State championship seasons in 2016 and 2017.

Fields is the only coach in state history to have won IHSAA Team, Singles and Doubles State championships in Boys' and Girls' tennis. He has also coached four IHSAA Tennis Mental Attitude Award winners in his career.

As a player, Fields was a member of the 1993 IHSAA Team State at North Central. He went on to graduate from IUPUI and the Butler University School of Education. Fields has a Masters in coaching from Concordia Irvine.

Away from the court he is Science Teacher at Brownsburg High School where Fields works alongside his wife Kaitlin, who is an Assistant Girls' Cross Country coach for Brownsburg. They have two kids (Abby and Ryan) and love to climb mountains in their spare time.
