JV Swim Meet

The Bulldog Aquatic Center was host to more than 230 athletes on Saturday, as the championship season kicked off with the Brownsburg JV Invitational. The Bulldogs had an outstanding day, turning in many impressive performances and large improvements on season best times and scores.
"This meet is a great opportunity for these kids, many of whom are the future of their respective programs," Head Coach Josh Saylor said. "Our future is bright after the day we had. It was a great start to our run of championship meets and I am very proud of all of these kids."
The boys were led by freshman Grant Kent, who took top honors in diving, as well as some strong showings in the swimming competition. Sophomore Riley Koester and freshmen Jack Lukens, Noah Pearson and Jacob Wilson finished second in the 200 Medley Relay and the same quartet finished fourth in the 400 Freestyle Relay. Individually, Pearson had the top finish of third place in the 100 Butterfly. Lukens was seventh in the 100 Backstroke, Koester was fifth in the 100 Breaststroke and Wilson was 14th in the 100 Breaststroke.
Sophomores Will Clemens and Christian Hammerly and freshmen Devon Anderson and Noah Bennett finished 8th in the 200 Freestyle Relay. Anderson (seventh) and Clemens (eighth) had strong showings in the 100 Butterfly while Bennett finished ninth in the 200 Freestyle and Hammerly dropped more than 6 seconds in the 100 Freestyle.
Additional impressive time drops were turned in by juniors Victor Inglima (50 Freestyle) and Miles Rhodes (100 Breaststroke), sophomore Jared Sweet (100 Freestyle) and freshmen Michael Breckler and Gavin Wheat in the 200 IM.
For the girls, the Bulldog distance swimmers had a great day, with freshmen Ava Davidson and Anna Santiago dropping close to 20 seconds each in the 500 Freestyle and more than 8 second times drops each in the 500 by sophomores Kimberly Liptak and Allie Miller. 
There was some speed on display as well, led by senior Breanna Smith. Smith teamed with Miller, Santiago and freshman Rebecca Perkins to finish ninth in the 400 Freestyle Relay, while Miller, Perkins, Smith and freshman Scarlett Merritt finished 11th in the 200 Freestyle Relay. Davidson, Merritt and Santiago teamed with freshman Brittany Bollinger for 12th place in the 200 Medley Relay.
Additional impressive time drops were turned in by sophomores Jennifer Abel (100 Freestyle), Emily Barnard (100 Breaststroke), Jordan Liptak (200 IM) and Corinne Lucas (100 Breaststroke) and freshman Jenna McCarthy in the 50 Freestyle.

The Bulldogs boys return to action on Tuesday, February 3, hosting the Brebeuf Braves at the Bulldog Aquatic Center at 6pm. The girls begin State tournament competition on Thursday, February 5, traveling to Decatur Central for the IHSAA Sectional swimming preliminary round at 5:30pm.
