Eric Mattingly Named Head Baseball Coach

The Brownsburg Community School Corporation Board of Trustees, at their regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, September 12, 2011, appointed Mr. Eric Mattingly as the varsity baseball coach for the Brownsburg High School Bulldogs. Mattingly replaces Pat Lowrey, who had been hired as the baseball coach this summer. Lowrey resigned his teaching and coaching positions after developing medical issues in late August.

Athletic Director Greg Hill stated, "Coach Mattingly was so impressive in the initial baseball interviews that we did not want to miss the opportunity to have him on our staff and hired him as the varsity assistant coach in both football and baseball. Because of his strong baseball background, he will transition easily as the head coach in Brownsburg's tradition rich program."

Mattingly had a successful playing career prior to coaching baseball; he was a three-year varsity letterman at Speedway High School when the Spark Plugs were sectional, regional, and semi-state champions and finished as the 2001 IHSAA Baseball State Runner-up. Collegiately, Mattingly was a three-year varsity letter-winner for DePauw University where the Tigers enjoyed the best three-year record in their history and were conference champions.

Mattingly, an English teacher at BHS, gained experience as a member of the coaching staff at Guerin Catholic and as the Varsity Assistant Coach at Warren Central High School from 2007-2011. The Bulldog baseball program began their off-season workouts last week and the team is anxious for 2012 baseball season to arrive. Coach Mattingly is putting together his coaching staff and is looking for help from Zach Warner, who has been on the BHS baseball staff for the last two years, and Ryan Kruszka, who played collegiately and coached at Butler University.
